Western
Golf Course Overview:

The golf course of Western is challenging and demanding, yet
playable. We offer four sets of tees depending upon player capabilities.
Donald Ross designed the course in a beautiful parkland setting. Tree-lined,
with the Rouge River running through, we have a truly established hidden
gem. Strategically placed ponds, bunkers, and doglegs provide different
decisions on each hole. Several elevated tees and greens accentuate the
character of our golf course.
Western has the distinction, as do several other clubs in this area, to have
had its course designed by the Dean of Architects, Donald Ross of Dornoch,
Scotland. After immigrating to the United States, this son of a stone mason
would make his mark in the golf world as perhaps the greatest and most
prolific designer of all time.
His trademarks at Western are apparent with the purity of the layout,
excellent use of land, with small and subtle greens. The test of endurance
is evident at Western in that throughout the years, the footprint of Ross's
design remains as it was when he built it in 1927, a very challenging
eighteen holes.
