Although I love many of the great technical aspects of LEM meat grinders and their overall appearance is attractive, they all look fairly similar — so if the visual design of a grinder is one of your most important considerations, then you might want to look elsewhere.
That’s not to say that these are ugly products; far from it as they have a nice uniform gray steel design that fits in well with kitchens whether they’re contemporary or classic in design. On the outside, they look basic but well-designed, with minimal buttons and other clutter. So if you’re looking for a simple design, you can expect thing across the LEM range of products.
The stainless steel exterior is high quality and won’t lose its sheen quickly, so you can rest assured that with the right amount of care your grinder will look as good as the day you bought it.
Many kitchens have stainless steel appliances, so the silver casing of the grinder should work well in a lot of homes. If you’re more particular about matching your individual kitchen units and tools, then there are other brands out there that have black, red, or other color casings for their grinders.
Thankfully LEM grinders generally are also a breeze to keep clean, another benefit of their simple design and functionality. They’re fairly easy to take apart, so there’s no fussing with having to disassemble a bunch of small parts just to remove the pieces that need to be cleaned.
If there’s any downside to the stainless steel exterior, it’s that it can make the overall grinder somewhat heavy. That’s a key consideration if you’re a cook who struggles with heavy products, or if you’re going to be moving the grinder around a lot (for example storing it in a cupboard and bringing it out only when needed). They can run in size from around 30 to 80 pounds depending on the model, so plan accordingly. But if you leave the grinder in one spot, this is less of a concern.
But overall these are nice-looking if simplistically styled grinders. LEM products tend to be in the mid to higher price range, and that’s reflected in the overall quality of their grinders.
And they don’t take up too much space, regardless of whether you’ll leave them out in the open or put them in storage when they’re not in use. The smallest LEM model on the market is about 9 inches by 16.5 inches by 14 inches, while the biggest and most expensive model is only somewhat bigger at 12 inches by 24 inches by 19 inches so that these grinders won’t dominate the kitchen.
So although LEM doesn’t produce the most exciting grinders visually, the really great perks of these products are hidden on the inside. A design that’s not that thrilling is a minor trade-off for such powerful grinders. Everyone has a different reason for choosing their grinder, and if aesthetics are the most important, then there are other companies with more colorful, eye-catching products. But for a good basic overall design with great functionality, LEM grinders are a good choice.
